The client's great-great grandfather Ernő Balázs (1856-1930) designed and built a multi-storey building for his family in the once suburban (today rather central) part of Budapest. The building itself is built in National Romantic style, that is often considered to be a form of Art Nouveau.
The most decorative interior elements in the 100-year old apartment are definitely the box-type windows and the plank framed doors, where one can still find the children’s height levels on the jambs from the period 1909-1926.
The goal of the renovation was to improve the old apartment layout according to the young family’s needs, and use the principles of the geometrical-flowery pattern ornaments.
